Course Overview

Lifting lugs, also known as padeyes, are among the most common joining methods. Lugs are used in combination with clevis pins to transmit load between different mechanical components.

This course discusses:

  • Overview of lug analysis
  • Simplified method of lug analysis, including:
    • Tension failure across the net section
    • Shear tear out along two planes
    • Bearing failure
  • Air Force Method of lug analysis, including:
    • Axial, transverse, and oblique loading
    • Double shear joint strength
  • ASME BTH Method of lug analysis
